Listening Comprehension
Dear Parents,
In class this week we worked on Listening Comprehension. This is an important skill and important part of our comprehensive reading program. Students need listening comprehension skills to understand and recall information and to evaluate the content of stories, assignments, examples, announcements and the like. We have been practicing using Listen and Sum. This is when students routinely briefly retell in their own words what we have read aloud or what I have said in class. Following are some internet based games I have found for your child to practice with. These are fun and will help your child become a better reader.
Movie Trailers

Your child will click on a movie title to find the exercise. When they have found the text, have them practice reading the text aloud with the video. They should let their voice be guided naturally by the voice in the video-just as if they were learning a song.
Fairy Stories

This is good for children who like fairy tales. Here again when your child clicks on the tales title then finds the text they should practice reading it aloud with the recording. Do not repeat afterword because that adds a memory component. Your child should let their voice be guided naturally by the recorded voice.
Listen to Songs and Fill in the Blanks
Have your child click on a song title. First listen to the song. Then type in the answers to the missing words from the song into the on screen form. It's Fun.
